Importing Text without changing the Format to Scientific?

When Importing Data into a New Table in Access 2000 from
Excel 2000, one of my Columns/Fields changes the Text to a
Scientific Notation Number?
The Import Column in Excel is formated as Text and
contains a mixture of Alpha & Numeric data.
The New Table Field Property is also Text.
For example the Import is changing the Text Number 2116626
in Excel into 2.11663e+006 in Access? Why?

Note: Not all the Numbers are converted to the Scientific
Format, some are OK?

Any help would be much appreciated.

had this same problem with my database. found out that if
i have the excel file open when i import it into access,
the values do not change. if you change fields to text in
a spreadsheet, excel continues to store the values as
numbers unless you actually replace the field contents
after formatting as text.
