Importing PST from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2002

HDD failure left me with assembling a backup of Outlook after complete
reinstall of XP Pro and Office XP.

Fortunately I recovered almost 90% of my old *.pst and used that when
setting up my new user. Outlook was fine, just missing some more recent
entries.

My work machine has the same mail accounts and messages but not in synch
completely with home. It too has XP Pro and Office XP.

I have copied the *.pst on my wok machine to a CD (with Outlook closed) and
taken it home to import the missing stuff but it tells me says (outlook.pst)
not "compatible with this version of Personal Folders Information Service"
and dis-allows the import. The properties do not show read only (as I had
seen as a problem in previous posts). I have tried numerous variations like
Exporting to a file (from my work machine) and Importing it at home. Still no
luck.

I am copying the PST from Outlook 2003 (11.5608.5703) to import into my
machine at home which is Outlook 2002 (10.6515.6714) SP3.

I had already copied it to the desktop and checked the properties to assure
not write protected.

Outlook 2003 PST's are not compatible with earlier versions. You would have
had to create a PST in the "Outlook 97-2002" format for it to be compatible.
That's why exporting is such a bad idea. It doesn't allow you to choose the
format.

Thanks Russ,

There's no workaround that you know of. Even If I rolled back to Ol2002 on
my work machine I couldn't use the .pst created from 2003?

Export to OE then over to Ol2002??

M/S had to provide some cross compatability through only one generation.

Any Ideas?

As I said, Microsoft's "workaround" is to use Outlook 2003 to create a new
PST in "Outlook 97-2002" format, then copy your data into that file. Only
Outlook 2003 can access this PST file.
