Importing .pst file

T

Trevor

Having restored my PC to factory settings I am trying to import a .pst file
I saved previously. Outlook is telling me its not a personal folders file.
It has to be! I exported it from Outlook and it saved as outlook.pst.

Anything else I can try?

Import/export is never the way to save an Outlook data file. Simply copy the
file and open it in the new Outlook installation.

Have tried 'opening' it and I get a message that outlook.pst is not a
personal folders file.

Where is the .pst file located and is the "read-only" attribute off?

I've copied and pasted it to the desktop. Will have to go and do some
research to see what you mean by 'read only attribute

This is a fairly clear sign that whatever method you used to create the PST
and/or copy it to its temporary home while you restored your PST has damaged
it beyond repair. One way that can do this is to export the PST and then
copy to a CD without closing Outlook. There is also anecdotal evidence that
some CD burning software can damage a PST in this way. There may be a
commercial product that can recover some of the PST, but nothing available
from Microsoft will. The next time, just close Outlook and copy the PST.
Do not export. Exporting loses data.
