Importing PST file problem

MechMan

I've got a PST file exported from Outlook 2002. Now I'm
trying to import that PST file into a newly installed
version of Outlook 2002. The problem is that I go File >
Import & Export > Import from another program or
file...but at this point nothing happens if I click
the "Next" button. The "Next" button just doesn't work.

Any ideas?

It's not updated with service packs yet (I don't have
what I need with me). Could that be the problem?

TIA

Two questions:
1. Are your import and export converters installed?
2. Why are you importing at all? Just open the PST file.

I didn't know you could just File > Open. Figured I had
to go through the same procedure that I used to export
the file in the first place.

Bet you're surprised the answer was so "obvious" eh? Me
too. 8-/

Thanks.

Just for future reference, unless you have to convert to another file
format, it's always best to avoid import and export with PST files. If you
are simply transferring data from one installation of Outlook to another,
just copy the PST file and open it in the other installation. Exporting,
then importing just adds two more chances for data loss or corruption, as
you already discovered.

And that brings up another point. When going from Outlook to Outlook, don't
export. Ever. Either copy your entire PST or create a new one, copy to it
the subset of your existing PST that you wish to transfer, and then copy
that PST.
