Importing Outlook mail folders into Windows Mail

I have not been able to import my Outlook inbox and sub folders into Windows
Mail. The Windows Help didn't help me at all.

I have exported the inbox and subfolders to a usb drive and transferred them
onto the Vista computer (desktop). Importing from here creates an empty
folder in Windows Mail.

I copied the .pst file into C:\users\graham\appdata\local\Microsoft\Windows
mail and imported from here with similar results.

I copied the backup.pst file into
C:\users\graham\appdata\local\Microsoft\Windows mail\local folders and
imported from here also with only an empty folder to show for my efforts.

Does the .PST file need to be in a certain directory?

I think you'll find that you need Outlook installed to be able to import pst
file data into Windows Mail.
Do you still have access to the old computer? Your easiest solution would be
to import your Outlook mail to Outlook EXPRESS and then having a look here:

How to migrate from Outlook Express to Windows Mail:

Hi Gordon,

Outlook lets me export to a file only in the following formats,

CSV dos
CSV Windows
dbase
Access
Excel
Forpro
Personal folder (.pst)
Tab separated values DOS
Tab separated values Windows,

while Mail lets me import as

Microsoft exchange
Outlook
OE 6
Windows Mail 7.

I guess that I hoped that two Microsoft Mail programs might both use .PST
file structure. I might just try seeing if OE is still installed on the old
computer which I still have.

Thanks for your reply Gordon.

That's correct. What I said was, import INTO Outlook Express, not export
FROM Outlook.
