importing jpeg files

Harold Silber

Good Day..
I would like some info on importing jpeg files into the collection,, and
then on to the storyline. When I've saved the movie back to my camera or
svcd , the movie clips are perfect, but the photos (stills) are not that
clear.(like the original jpeg)
Is there any special way that the jpeg must be imported, or must it be a
specific image size or resolution ? The jpegs are scans from 35mm negs,
which have been scanned to CD.
Awaiting the group's expert solution

Harold,

Typically scanned still images would be of higher resolution than movie
resolution. And SVCD quality is lower than DVD quality.

Also, the software you are using to convert the movies to MPEG2 format to
burn your SVCDs applies another conversion process at the cost of quality.

What is the resolution of you scanned JPEGs? Are you saving from Movie Maker
as DV-AVI for the highest quality? What software are you using to make you
MPEG2 files?

Hi PapaJohn

the images are as follows :
1840 by 1232 pixels (image size)
They are scanned in at 72 using the frontier machine by the photographic
shop.
Yep I normally use DV-AVI .. or the high quality video pal when I am making
a SVCD.
I use Nero software to make the SVCD , but the quality is not that great.
I can't always use DV-AVI , because my camera (Sony DCR-PC1E only has a one
way connection (DV out) ... and it does not have a record button ...
thanks
Harold

Hey Harold,

When images are imported into Movie Maker a temporary resized "proxy" of the
image is created (at either 1024x786 or 800x600, I can't remember which) so
MM doesn't load 5MB into memory when it's working with really high
resolution images (since you're probably only saving out to 640x480 anyway).
