Importing from OE5 to Windows Vista Mail

I have recently bought a new PC (even though it has the crap Vista on it - I
had no choice!!)

I am now trying to export my EMail messages from OE5 on my old PC into
Windows Mail on my new PC and I can't work out how to do it. Does anybody
know or have I lost all the messages I have accumulated over the last 5 years.

Also, what is wrong with this crap mail program? I have to close it down to
refresh the folders view - every time I create a new folder or read my new
EMails - what's going on and why are the evil MS selling stuff to us before
testing it.

Would I be better off in either of these situations using MS Outlook instead.

Wouldn't Microsoft like for you to use an extra cost program, Outlook,
instead of a program available free if you have Vista, such as Windows
Mail or Windows Live Mail? If you have an Outlook version 2003 or
more recent and an unused license for it, it runs well under Vista.
Version 2002 also runs under Vista, but with a few problems.

Outlook Express won't run under Vista.

If you want your old contacts, bring along the .wab file. After you
copy the files to a directory on your new hard drive, but before
you import them into Windows Mail, make sure the copies are
read-write instead of readonly.

We need a better description of the problem you have when you
refresh the folders view before we can offer much help with it.

Also, what if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them
tend to cause assorted problems in Windows Mail, although
seldom immediately.

duplicated folder name) but now I have got no folders except Inbox in Windows
Mail. Where have they gone?

I am running Norton 360 protection software (does that cause a problem?)

My other issue was that when anything happens to a mail folder the view is
not refreshed - so if I had 7 new messages, when I have read and deleted them
it still says I have 7 unread messages. When I create a new folder it isn't
there. F5 just does a send/receive. I have to come out of Windows Mail and
go back in for changes to show. Although this is irrelevant now as I only
have one folder.

Windows Mail is not compatible with some security programs,
one of those being Norton antivirus. As a test, uninstall your
security program, reboot, then try Windows Mail again.
If this results in improvement, we can recommend a free
replacement antivirus that is more compatible.

You have done what? Not all of find it easy to go back to previous messages
that aren't quoted in your reply.

If there's a triangle to the left of Local Folders, clicking on it should
make
some folders appear or disappear.

Yes. Most versions of the Norton antivirus programs, most versions of the
McAfee antivirus programs, and a recent version of the Trend antivirus
program all cause assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom
immediately. To stop any of these programs from creating new problems
in Windows Mail, you have to uninstall them, not just disable part or all
of them. For the Norton program, you often then need to run this cleanup
program to take care of what the uninstall left behind:

You then sometimes need to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

If this cures your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus program
that doesn't cause such problems in Windows Mail. I recommend either
avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install that tells it to leave out
the part that scans email.

I'm not sure that Windows Mail can import OE5 files... you may have to
import them into OE6 first, and then import the OE6 files.

And, I'd recommend using the newer Windows Live Mail....

Yes it can. OE5 DBX files are the same as OE6 DBX files.
