Importing Excel w/ >255 fields

I am trying to import from an Excel 2000 spreadsheet with
a field that has more then 255 characters. This field is
getting cut off when I import to MS Access. Unfortunately
in the import wizard I am not able to select the data type
(greyed out as Text), otherwise I would set it to Memo.

The help says that you can't link, but rather should
import. It also says that you should be able to chagne
the data type...

I am stuck...

hi,
I link xl files to access all the time. I would rather
link xl files than import. saves disk space. and the
linked files work just like access tables, use them in
queries and everything.
and the link will not truncate you data.

I believe this was an issue with A97 and Excel97.
IIRC, this was fixed in A2000 and later.
What version are you using?
