Importing data from back up file

I just reinstalled my win 98 OS on a Inspiron 7500 laptop.
I am trying to import my old information from a backup .pst file that I have
on a cd.
When I select [D:\backup3.pst] I get an error message theat reads -
Properties for this information service must be defined prior to use.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Copy the file to your HDD - do NOT overwrite the existing pst file. Remove
the read-Only attribute, (Right-click on the file and choose properties).
then in Outlook, go to File-Open-Outlook Data File.
