I'm just setting up Outlook 2003 on a new notebook (Vista), having
transferred my entire C drive (XP) from my previous notebook onto an external
hard drive. I forgot to export my Outlook 2003 contacts & calendar from the
old one. I have the external hard drive, but not the old notebook. There
doesn't seem to be a "Local Settings" listing under the external hard drive's
"Documents and Settings" folder. I'm now thinking such things don't move
with a data transfer. Have I lost my contacts, calendar, and saved emails?

Thanks.

There is never any reason to export. Your Outlook data file should still be
where you transferred it. Only you know that.

I think I may have been misunderstood. I did not transfer explicitly my data
file, but my entire C drive. I don't know what my data file is named or what
type it is or where it would be located in the C drive.

default location is C:\Documents and Settings\{your user Account}\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and the file is called
Outlook.pst by default...

right. thanks for that. I had checked there on my backed-up data, but there
is no "Local Settings" folder in the "Documents and Settings" folder, even
though I backed up everything. My suspicion is that "Local Settings" are not
able to be moved.

Any other ideas?

But your data file was on the C: drive, right? Unless you moved it somewhere
else, it would have been transferred. How did you transfer your drive? How
you accessing it now? Have you enabled the display of hidden files?

I'm assuming data file was on the C: drive, but I don't know where on the C:
drive (again, I've checked "Documents and Settings" exhaustively). I did a
mass transfer of the C: drive...everything all at once via USB. I'm
accessing it through USB. Yes, I've enable display of hidden files.

A "mass transfer?" Using what method? If done correctly it should have
transferred all your files including your Outlook data file. Make sure you
have access to both hidden and system files.

Have you worked with external hard drives? You simply hook it up via USB to
the computer, and it acts as any mass storage device (including memory
sticks, jump drives, etc.). My external hard drive has the ability and
capacity to take on the entire C: drive at the push of a button. That is
what I did.

Now I need to know WHERE to look for my Outlook data and WHAT to look for.

Gordon already posted that information.
You still had to use some method to transfer your hard drive, and you have
not posted that.
