Hi every one

I am not sure how we can import ACTIVE DIRECTORY from one machine running
Windows 2000 server to another machine running Windows 2000 server.

We have one machine configured as domain controller and Active directory etc
installed on that machine, We are replacing that machine with another
machine with better hardware.

So we want to keep all active directory and domain information same as on
previous machine.

If some one can advise the procedure how to handle it.

Kind Regards

Not a problem with Win2k. Just setup the new machine, then join it to your
existing Domain and run Dcpromo, this will cause it to copy the AD from your
current Server. Once all the AD data has been replicated to it (give it
time) you can run Dcpromo on the old machine (which will wipe out the AD
info) and then remove it from your system. Oh, you will also have to check
your DNS setup, remember Win2K needs DNS for everything.
And now all your AD data is on the new machine. Good Luck.

I would recommend transferring the FSMO's manually rather than counting on
it to happen automatically. Also, need to consider DHCP if it is used....

Hank,

I agree. While I have tested this at several different times ( simply
letting the dcpromo process handle it - all successful BTW ) I would rather
*know* that these five roles were indeed transferred and transferred
correctly by me manually transferring them.
