Imported distribution lists not working well

After upgrading to Outlook 2003 from Outlook Express 6 the distribution lists
thet contain other ditribution lists do not always work.

In an effort to fix the user deleted the original list and recreated it with
a different name. Now when sending the new list she gets the following
message.

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: phone in system inaccessibility - 4-17-07 take 4

Sent: 4/17/2007 12:03 PM


The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'All Managers of MMRA' on 4/17/2007 12:03 PM

None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.

The 'All Managers of MMRA' distribution list is the list that was deleted.
She replaced it with a new on named 'MMRA Managers'.

Is there a way to fix this? There is no problem with the email system. It
worked fine until we upgraded her.

If that can not be fixed then is there a way to "strip" the distribution
lists? Can Outlook be made to think there have never been any distribution
lists?

Outlook 2003 is not an upgrade for OE. OE does not even use Distribution
Lists. These two programs are unrelated.
Clarify your post, please.

OE uses the windows address book and that allows "groups". These groups were
imported into outlook as distribution lists along with my user's contacts.

Some of the groups are made up of individual contacts from the contacts
list, some of them are made up of just other groups and some of them are a
combination of individuals and groups.

The following example will spell out the problem.

My user had an "All managers for MMRA" group made up of individual contacts
and another group called IQ managers which was made up of individual contacts
only. She tried to send an email to the All managers of MMRA group and some
individual contacts and the following message was received back from our
email server.

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: FW: HIPAA Weekly Advisor - April 16, 2007

Sent: 4/17/2007 9:40 AM


The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'All Managers of MMRA' on 4/17/2007 9:41 AM

None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.


Before thinking it could be the email server, know that over 200 other
people are not getting these messages. Only this user gets them since
importing her contacts from OE.

Importing, especially OE groups and Outlook DLs can be problematic. It
sounds like the name isn't resolving. If she opens the DL in her Contacts
folder, does it contain the correct members and their addresses?

Groups in the WAB are not the same as DL's in a PST. It is very rare that
they are ever converted correctly via an import from OE. Nested groups would
fare even more poorly. In fact, you cannot even import Outlook DL's from one
PST file to another.

Yes they do contain the contacts.

Importing, especially OE groups and Outlook DLs can be problematic. It
sounds like the name isn't resolving. If she opens the DL in her Contacts

Yes they do contain the contacts.

If The DLs exist in your default contacts folder (or in a folder enabled as
an address book) and, after entering it in the To field and pressing CTRL-K
does not cause it to resolve (become underlined), then consider creating is
manually. I don't have any other suggestions.
