Imported Contacts Sort by Title

Don't know why this is happening, but an imported (from Excel 2003) contacts
list is coming up sorted by title in the Address book when viewed from new
message window. I click to and select contacts -- all contacts that have a
Dr. for example title come up alphabetically in the Ds rather than in their
first name grouping, which is our default.

Any ideas?
