imported calendar left out my custom categories?

I'm trying to back up my calendar, and want to make sure all the categories
I've added over the years to the "Master Category List" stay with each
calendar entry.

A year ago I exported my personal folders to a .pst file. Then imported
that .pst to MS OL 2k on my laptop. It looked like all the appointments
were there, but the categories I had associated with them were not! If you
opened an appointment, the Categories field had only the original master
default categories.

Does OL save the personal categories in a special file like it appears to do
with personal signatures? is so, what is it called and where does it reside?

BTW, the same thing happened with my PDLs. The names of the PDLs in my
address book were listed, but there were no entries...think i'll tackle that
one another day.

thanks!

Importing a .pst file to Outlook is the absolute sure method to lose items
such as custom views, categories, connections between contacts and calendar
and activities, etc.

NEVER import a .pst file - use File->Open->Outlook Data File to access your
data.

Thanks! I may have been incorrect. The categories ARE there. A question
remains, but perhaps I shouldn't post it here, since it's not a calendar
issue.

If I try the same with a contacts file, the bolded *names* of PDLs I've
created appear within the contacts, but no email addresses/names are listed
in the group, they're empty. I exported contacts to a .pst file, and then
dragged that file to the laptop through my ethernet lan, and tried to use
File->Open->.pst file and pointed it toward the .pst file I just dropped on
it's desktop.

please advise if I should start a new post elsewhere..

thanks Milly!!!!
