Import XP .pst file to Outlook 2003 .pst error = File access denie

I've read all the posts about CD .pst files causing error = "File access is
denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file."

My problem is not caused by the import source file being on a CD nor by a
"read attribute". I am on a local home network and the import file is one of
my .pst files on another computer with Outlook is "closed". I tried copying
the file to another location, but with the same error.

I think so many people are using the "import export wizard" because
Microsoft told them to do it that way in the artice at
URL = http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP0103835110033.aspx

This MS Assistance is titled "Convert a non-Unicode data file (.pst) to a
Unicode data file (.pst)

I have tried File/Open/Outlook Data File and get the same error message.

Everything I find about giving permissions relates to Exchange servers. I
do not know how or where to give read / write permission to a file.

Any ideas?

Can you copy the PST file to your local machine and then re-try the import?

Vince, it worked! Copying the file across the network to my local computer
enabled me to Import the file (as Microsoft wrote in my previously mentioned
article.) I just don't know why "Import" does not work across the network
the same way that file transfers do when dragging and dropping(??).

It was one of those nights when I was exhausted and couldn't try one more
thing. Very rewarding feeling!

Thanks for your help!!!

Do NOT import a PST in Outlook. Data is lost that way. Open the PST with
FIle>Open>Outlook Data File.

Vince,

I'm having the same challenge, but what you asked Bob to do is not working
for me. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Scott

If the pst is located on your HD, eg in your Documents Folder, the read only
archive is not set, you are not trying to open a later version pst with an
earlier version outlook and within outlook, File>Open returns an error msg,
then likely the pst was corrupted by whatever method you used to create it.
Try running scanpst.exe, the repair tool on it.
