Import format and then exporting

I was wondering if there is a way to take a .csv file and import it and then
export as a .prn file specific format. Let me try to give an example. We
want to take a file that we are exporting from our payroll software into
Access and save it as a.csv file. From there we want Excel to import this
file using a template format that will then export this as a .prn file. The
..prn file will need to be formated so that record is a file 145 characters in
length and various sections represent specific file data. Such as position
1-12 = account number, position 12-20 = Payee First Name, etc...

Can Excel pull in one format, automatically convert to a fixed width field
that can then be exported? I know how to create the prn file manually but
want to know if a template can be created that will autoformat when the data
is pulled in?

Sorry for the long winded description...

Rick,

I am no expert at Excel, but since you know how to
format .prn files manually, try recording a macro in Excel
while you are actually creating the .prn file manually.
Then add a "button" that links to the macro, which
will "run the macro" for you and then create the .prn file.

I actually did this to take .csv files and convert them
into Excel files each month. It worked very well,
although I am not sure about how it would work when
converting to .prn files. Its something you may want to
try if you get no better response.
