Import Excel Spreadsheet

When I try to import an Excel Spreadsheet into Access I receive the following
error message:

"The Wizard is unable to access the information in the #fileName#. Please
check that the file exists and is in the correct format."

However, I AM ABLE TO IMPORT the same the Excel Spreadsheet if the
spreadsheet is open in Excel at the time I am importing the Spreadsheet into
Access. Why?

Also, if I copy and paste the data in Excel spreadsheet into a totally new
workbook (formats and all), then save the new workbook with a different name,
say WorkbookA.xls. I am able to import WorkbookA.xls into Access without
WorkbookA.xls open.

Does anybody know why? What potentially could be in the original
spreadsheet that is prohibiting the import into Access? Thank you for you
help.

Hi, Roger.
What potentially could be in the original
spreadsheet that is prohibiting the import into Access?

Does the original spreadsheet have a VBA project? Is it locked? That could
prevent import when the file is closed, and not when it's open, and explain
why pasting the spreadsheet into a brand new file presents no problem during
import.

HTH.
