The new Windows Mail in Vista claims to "easily import email from
Netscape...". I have not been able to find the resources for this. Can anyone
help.

Dan

Where does it say that? Netscape is not listed under File | Import |
Messages.

steve

From Windows help this is the message.....

"Import messages to Windows Mail from other e‑mail programs

You can switch to Windows Mail from your existing e‑mail program without
losing access to your existing e‑mail messages. Windows Mail can import
messages from a variety of popular e‑mail programs, such as Eudora and
Netscape Communicator, as well as from Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft
Outlook.

Click to open Windows Mail.

Click the File menu, point to Import, and then click Messages.

Follow the instructions to import your e‑mail messages."

It's rather irritating they will make this statement without being able to
back it up. I thought, "wow, I need to get that so I can migrate over to
Windows Mail" Now I find out there is no easy way to do it without spending a
half day and loading several old program versions.

Hi Dan,

Can you give me the exact way you got there to get to that quote? I want to
shove that up somewhere and can't find it to do that.

Exactly what Help links did you use to get to the page that showed that
quote? That's what I need.

If you can get the other messages into an eml file format, which is an
Internet standard then all you have to do is drag them into a WinMail
folder.

cheers,

steve

Open Help. Type "email netscape". Hit the link "Import messages to Windows
Mail from other e-mail programs."

You should note that those instructions apply for "Netscape Communicator"
and not for import from later versions of Netscape mail (I.e, all versions
higher than 4.5) or from Thunderbird. But you can import into Outlook
Express from some of those programs by doing the following:

Rescue Your Email from Netscape 6:

Once done, it's simple to import them into Outlook Express and from there
into Windows Mail; or if you have Outlook 2000-2003 installed on the old
machine this may help:

Please reply only to the newsgroup.

Thanks. That information is clearly incorrect, as they have no such options
under File | Import | Messages.

steve

Go and look. There is no option to import from "Eudora and Netscape
Communicator". The help file lies.

steve

Oh, I agree the Help file is wrong. I was just pointing out some
alternative ways to get his Netscape mail into OE for eventual import into
Vista.

Thanks for the inut. Microsoft has been no help on this either. They have
been real jerks
dan

If you have a small Netscape file, then zip it and email it to me and I'll
take a look at it and see if there's an easy way to translate it.
