Import a .xlsx file into a MS Access 2000 .mdb table

I have an Access 2000 database that imports an Excell worksheet using
transferspreadsheet. The source of the worksheet changed from Excel 2000 to
2007. Now I receive the error that it is an unexpected format. Is there a way
to import the worksheet without upgrading Access to 2007?

Software is rarely forward compatible. In the year 2000 or before
(they probably worked on Excel2000 in 1998-99) there was no concept
yet of what Excel would be like 8 years later.
Can you export to CSV, then import to Excel2007?
