I have 2 folders under the 'Documents and Settings/My Name/Temp' folder that
I just cannot seem to delete. The folders are empty, but seem 'greyed' or
'pale yellowed' out and when I try and delete them, or even highlight them,
the File Explorer goes mad and shuts down with errors.

There are no viruses on the machine according to Symantec 2004 Virus
Checker, but not being able to delete these folders really annoys me.

The names of these folders are in the format of 'Temporary Directory 1 for
Miscellaneous.ZIP' and 'Temporary Directory for ALIEN.ZIP'.

Any ideas on how to delete them will be very appreciated

Regards

I have had the same problem, and what I did to fix it
was: get a blank 3 1/2 floppy disk, put it in your drive,
then open my computer, right click the floppy drive, and
click format. In the formar options select ms dos startup
disk. After you have created the disk shut down your
computer and boot from the disk (if necessary you might
have to change the boot order in your bios settings) Then
when you get to the C:/ prompt type:

cd documen~ then when you are in the documen~ folder
cd your name (if longer then 7 letters use first 7 then ~)
cd temp then write
del (whatever the name of the folders are)

and confirm you want to delete them.
Hope this helps

It wont if he has an NTFS file system.
Try after booting in safe mode, or with an ftp program.
Also run an analysis of your system with adaware and spybot.
