system auto shutdown and when it reboots it says 1720-
SMART hard drive detects imminent failure. Can anyone
tell me how to fix this?

You might want to check with the company that manufactures your hard drive.
Provide them with the error message and see what they suggest.

time to replace the harddrive before it fails. That is what the smart
warning is trying to tell you.

Greetings --

Back up your data and replace the hard drive. I've only seen 1
"false alarm" out of a great many accurate predictions of failure.
