Imminent failure on 'Harddisk2\DR2'

Just noticed warning in Event Viewer:

'The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk2\DR2 has
predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and
replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent.

Is this always the same drive that is displayed as "Disk 2" in the
Disk Management utility?

This article may help. I'd download and run a disk diagnostic utility from
the drive manufacturer's web site.

Hi Rob,
Try RUN chkdsk.exe in the RUN command and the check disk will check your
HDD and mark the bad Sector or Repair the Damaged ones.
But be Prepaired and Backup your Data for the Future if you run out of Disk
space or the problem escalated further to Reinstall your OS on New HDD from
scratch.
Hope this Helps
Please let us know

Thanks for the replies. I do run chkdsk with the full test options,
and I'm in the process of running drive diagnostics. If any errors
are confirmed, I'll probably just replace the drive.

Problem is that there are eight drives on this system. I need to
concentrate primarily on the one that was flagged by eventViewer
(\Device\Harddisk2\DR2 ). Since no drive letter is given, is this the
same drive that is shown in Disk Management as 'Disk 2'?

I'm eligilbe to use Windows XP Academic version, what are the major
differences between the academic version and XP Pro. Is Pro worth the extra
money? TIA c!

The Academic version has licensing differences.
Typically your license to use ends when you are no longer attending that
school.
Otherwise it is the same.
The Academic version is available in Windows XP Pro, I am not sure about
Home availability.
Ask the book store for details.

To the OP: if there ever was a time to say you're a life-long
student, now is the time! But, knowing M$, there's some bullshit
timer to shut down your license after some finite period of time.
Think of it - if everybody scammed a student-anything, Bill the
Gates might lose a few billion. And, as Everett Dirksen once said
in the U.S. Senate "a billion here, a billion there and pretty soon
you're talking about real money!"

I'm using the "Academic" version (micro$oft's agreement with the school) & it
doesn't expire even if one leaves the school. The only "difference" is that
there is a printed statement on the cd that says "not for retail or oem
distribution".

The micro$soft agreement also stated that we could install windows on both our
desktoop & laptop; when xp came out, we were only able to install the xp ver
onto 1 computer since m$ broke the contract agreement as the agreement was still
in effect.

Check your school for a copy of the m$ agreement unless what the "Academic"
version refers to is a boxed academic version.
