IMAP security SSL

My web based mail uses a https page, so that my email is encyrpted between my
computer and the email server. when i configured imap, i was instructed to
set the option "properties/advanced/ " and for smtp and imap, to select
"this server requires a secure connection (SSL)"

so does this mean that between my outlook express and the email server, my
message in encrypted?
