IMAP, Mail and new pc

S

shandonfrank

Like many others I have tried to set up my email using Windows Mail. I hav
disabled firewalls, virus checkers, tried secure connections etc and nothing
works. I have installed clients (Outlook, Outlook Express, many versions)
before and they have all worked. I can even read my email from another
machine with XP using my wireless network, however, everytime I try to update
m IMAP folders in Windows Mail I get this message...

"Your IMAP command could not be sent to the server, due to non-network
errors. This could, for example, indicate a lack of memory on your system."

Lots of other have seen it to but no one seems to know what really causes
it, do they?

Which antivirus programs do you have, even if they are disabled? Most
antivirus programs from Norton or McAfee, and a recent program from
Trend, must be uninstalled, not just disabled, to stop them from causing
problems in Windows Mail. You may also need to run a cleanup tool:

<http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1>

<http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039>

You may then need to finish the cleanup by removing your email account
under Windows Mail, then creating it again.

Robert,
I worked through all the steps you suggested and I now have my mail working
with Windows Mail. I was indeed using MacAfee. Many thanks. However, I also
discovered another fault (of my own stupidity). Windows Mail reverses the
order of the Incoming Mail and Outgoing Mail boxes in the advanced tab on
the email account properties tool (compared to OE and Outlook). I said
before I had set up mail lots of times (too many!) and didn't even read
this. Anyway all is well now.

Thanks again,

Frank
