I currently use a hosted mail provider with an IMAP connection. If I use
something along the lines of Windows Mail (Vista) or Mail.app (OSX) it
behaves as you'd expext with any mail program. You hit delete, a message or
messages vanish, and they go into your Deleted Items.
However with Outlook 2007 it seems to follow a more traditional IMAP
standard and strikes the message for deletion. This causes a few problems
for me, namely:
1) Once its struk through I have to navigate away from my Inbox and back or
perform a purge to get the message to go away.
2) Since it's purged, it never went to Deleted Items and therefore the
safety net of being able to go back and retrieve that message is gone. And
staring at it struck-through in my Inbox isn't a great solution.
3) When Junk comes in, it doesn't strike it through (I have to hit delete
manually) but it then moves it to Junk so I then have to go into Junk,
delete it again, then navigate away to get that copy to vanish.
All in all....is there a way to get Outlook to treat IMAP more like Windows
Mail or other mail programs would? If not, then I'm guessing my options lie
in using Windows Mail more often or getting a hosted Exchange account.
Thanks kindly, folks
