imap and exchange

hi everyone,

I have set up outlook to access 2 exchange servers. One account connects to
server 1 (domain 1) as an Exchange server. Account 2 connects to server 2
(domain 2) as an IMAP server. Account 1 (the exchange account) delivers mail
to a local pst file due to bandwidth restrictions.

Two questions:

1) Can I have different delivery locations for the 2 accounts (I understand
that IMAP stores mail in the default mail store)

2) I have tried sending mail via the IMAP account. When I compose a new
message, I select the IMAP account in the Account drop down list at the top
of the e-mail. Nevertheless the message is sent using the Exchange account.
Even if I change the IMAP account to the default account the message is
still sent via the Exchange account. How can I send mail for users of
Exchnage server 2 via the IMAP account?

PS BTW, the second server is for local mail for a local domain only, hence
the 2 servers

1) IMAP always uses it's own pst since you download copies from the server.
If you move messages to the imap store, they'll be uploaded to the imap
server.

2) Can you send using the imap account if you only have an imap account in
the profile? There is a bug in outlook that it sends on any account if it
can't send on the selected account. If the second server is not configured
right or you aren't authenticating right, mail won't send.
BTW - if you type your imap email address in the from field, the exchange
server (domain 1) should reject it because your exchange account (domain 1)
doesn't have send as permission for that address (on the exchange server
domain 1).

I removed the Exchange account and was still unable to send mail. The
problem appears to be that there is no from address, however, even when I
display the from field and specify myself as the sender it still does not
send:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: test 2

Sent: 23/06/2005 2:54 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Laboratory on 23/06/2005 2:54 PM

None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.



If I now look in the From field in the sent item it says "on behalf of; XXX
XXXX" instead of saying that the message is actually from XXX.

Help!

are you authenticating with the SMTP server you are trying to use? I've had
problems sending through SMTP when I use IMAP to exchange. If it wasn't
properly configured on the Exchange side to allow it, I had to use another
SMTP. I don't recall the error message I got with it though.

The From field is not untended to change the sending address for an IMAP
account. The Accounts button should do that.
