Images won't appear in print or normal layout but do in print prev

I can.t see my pics as I am building my document. But when I go to print
preview they appear
 
If the pictures are floating -- that is, anything except in-line with
text -- then they will not appear in Normal view, ever. To see them in
Print Layout view, go to Tools > Options > View and check the box for
the "Drawings" option.

Note that there's a separate "Drawing objects" option in the Print tab
of the same dialog that controls whether you can see the pictures in
Print Preview and on the printed page.
