Images vs Real Text

This site that I'm working on uses images for everything. All headers,
titles,... and more. It seems easier to replace the images with text (which
is almost identical when viewing). I believe I heard someone once say that
if it is an image, it will show up exactly the same on all computers that
view it. While this may be true, is it really necessary at this point.

This site is very old and was neglected (or should I say abused) for several
years. I'm working to clear out all the garbage which makes up for 75% of
its disk space.

Typically, this has been done because of the use of a font that may not be
supported on all machines viewing the site. Other than that, I can't think
of one good reason to do it. And I'm not crazy about that one!

Thanks for your answer. That's kind of what I figured.
Do you know if dhtml can be put on a frameset as a menu?
I'm trying to look it up, but cant find anything on it yet.

it can - with the proviso that a div (ie sub-menu) cannot cross frame
boundaries
