Images on IE6 for WinXP Pro

Since yesterday, for an unknown reason, I am unable to save images from
webpages as anything other than a BMP file - I have never had this happen
before, and am at a loss to explain it? Even my own files on my webpages that
I KNOW are JPG come up as BMP when I go to save them - has a setting been
changed? Where is anything about image type ettings found? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Clear your Temporary Interent Files and reload the page.

Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Delete Files
button > checkmark in 'Delete all offline content'.

Hi soakbear :)

You don't mention the version of WIndows you are using, but, in addition to
Ted's sugestion, another possibility is that you have checked "Do not save
encrypted pages to disk" and the picture is on a page reached by a secure
https:// connection. To check this
Go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab and see if it is checked. If so,
UNcheck it.

also...

If that doesn't help check your settings here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg
For Content Type, it should read "image/jpeg".

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpeg
For content Type, it should read: image/jpeg

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif
For Content Type is should read "image/gif"

If it already set to that, go to Start>Run and type in one at a time and hit
enter after each entry:

regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll,
regsvr32 /i shdoc401.dll,
regsvr32 webvw.dll
regsvr32 thumbvw.dll (for upgrades).

Hope this helps.

Thanks!!! What is crazy is that I never save the "cache" and I am set for
only one day history. After I deleted the files I still had to shut down and
restart for the files to really go away!!! Very frustrating problem - never
had that happen before and I spend a LOT of time on the internet.... Thanks
for the info about how it saves certain ways - I will know what to do if it
does manage to occur again!
