I've been reading the Red X problems, but i don't even
get that. I wasn't having any trouble until two days ago
....and i did a new index.html page for my site.

http://home.myuw.net/cganders/index.html

there are four images up there...and sometimes none
of them download (with no placeholders...even though I
checked that I wanted placeholders) and sometimes
only one will show up...but not the others. From a different
machine using a different ISP, I can see it fine...

but here's the weird thing...when I do a View Source to look
at my code...I get a weird insert from somewhere and the
IMG= code for the missing images has disappeared...when one
shows up, that IMG code is there, but for every missing image,
the IMG code has been removed (not the HREF linking...just the
part for the IMG)

I'm thinking that maybe View Source is creating the file on the
fly and that might explain the missing code, butnot the
Zone Labs Privacy insert jsp lines...

I've reset my IE 6 to all its defaults...no change...I've cleared allthe
temp files...nada....I've set the firewall to LOW...nada...I've run virus
checker...nothing....I've allowed ALL Cookies, ALL Popups...nada...I've
even made it a Trusted Site....in fact, deleting the temp files then
refreshing
loses me the the only image I get if I got one...it doesn't go back up and
get it after it's been deleted in temp.

The problem only happens with this index file...and any other file using
this setup...like a TestB.html I set up...not my older previously published
files (so far.) but recreating the file doesn't seem to help or giving it a
new
name (like testB)

this is not acceptable...does anyone have any further ideas...I'm not
at the reinstall point, it's too big anyway since I have dialup...or the
fiddle with the registry yet point...yes, I'm looking at
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/51.html
site right now...

I am downloading Firefox now..though...I want an alternative to IE
from now on.

But I still want to understand this problem. It's ridiculous
and It needs to be fixed for all IE/Windows
users and fixed right...any suggestions?

YES, FIXED. thank god for Google!

Just FYI for those you also may see this issue. I searched for
the Zone Labs Privacy Insertion on Google and hit a newsgroup
talking about it
http://www.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/comp.security.firewalls/2003-02/1476.html

I'm guessing now that CA uses ZoneLabs in its Privacy controls for it's
Firewall (which
I use)

I went into the EZ Firewall (by CA) and clicked on the (vertical) Privacy
Tab, then clicked on
the Sites tab (horizontal top location) and added in my site to the allowed
list. Then just
to be sureI went to the Main tab, and I turned off Ad Blocking and Cookie
control...

then I reloaded my site, refreshed it, and there everything was...(I
probably didn't need to do
all the things I did, but I was desperate at this point. You see, I had
just finished backing out
of 3 months of Windows Updates and even that hadn't worked.)

Anyway, why it worked before but not later, is still a mystery...since I
didn't do any
CA Firewall fiddling...either Windows did it, IE did it, or somehow the
mixing of CA
and Windows security stuff, setting and resetting popup blockers, etc in IE
and it
somehow interfering with CA...did it.

It's very aggravating to say the least...why can't they all get along!!!
whine..
(this may end up in my blog...as a humorous spoof of course...most funny
tech things I do end up there.) :)
