Images don't appear in body of e-mail

I use Win XP Pro and MS Outlook. Office is my e-mail editor.
I receive an e-mail with pictures/cartoons/photos in the body of the e-mail.
Easy to see, no opening of the individual photos and the sequence, if any,
can be followed.
I forward or send the e-mail to others - and even back to myself.
The pictures then arrive as separate attachments (not in the body of the
e-mail) and have to be individually opened.
I would like to avoid the hassle of opening and retain the continuity of the
series of pictures.
I tried the settings in Options - Security - Change Download Options - but
to no avail.
I also use Windows Defender, Spyware Doctor and Norton's AntiVirus.
I would appreciate your help.

By design, Outlook does not display attached images inline. Outlook is a
business application. OE is targeted to consumers and the needs of the two
groups are different in this area. Exchange Administrators consider inline
display a security issue and don't want it.

Outlook only shows images inline with HTML mail items or RTF mail items with
OLE embedded images. Images in plain text mail items only show as
attachments (that you can open or save).

Russ,

Thanks for the explanation.

Can you please explain in simple terms why I receive messages with embedded
(does that mean that I see them in the text when I open the e-mail?) images
but can't send them with embedded text. Is the fact that I compose in HTML
relevant?

As my post explains, you will see images inline if the sender embeds images
inline with HTML mail items or RTF mail items.
If you want to send messages that way, you must embed them in an HTML
message. Forwarding does not do this.

Russ,

Thank you for the explanation and the time taken to assist me.

Would it be too much to ask for a simple explanation as to how I can go
about embedding an image that I have saved on my PC in an HTML e-mail that I
am composing in Outlook.
