Images behave diff. in my FP

I was showing a friend a workaround for images with transparent edges so that
they'd disply properly. Well ... wouldn't you know it ... doing a regular
insert of such an image worked just fine on her system. I don't understand
it. I'm pleased that it worked for her. We're both using windows xp and
FP2003. Now I want the same thing (not too much to ask).

When I insert them into FP on my system, (gif, png or jpg) (neither work for
me). They look absolutely horrible, splotchy and rugged when I insert them.
The exact same images will insert into powerpoint or word and look
absolutely beautiful.

Is there a setting in my FP that's causing this behaviour. I'd really like
to hear from someone that has any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks. Diana

Hi Eleanor,
I have the same problem with something I've drawn and with photos. I'm
using CorelDraw 12 to do my exports. After applying my shadow to drawing, it
looks just fine ... I can export to a few formats and they look fine. I can
insert into powerpoint and they look fine. When I add FrontPage to the
equation ... everything changes. The shadow becomes solid and there's an
added ugliness.

The wierd thing that I can do ... I can drag the image across my screen,
into FrontPage and it looks beautiful. I don't like doing this because it
creates extra folders that cannot be accessed from within Frontpage
(strangely enough). This is such wierd behaviour. All other images that I
export for Frontpage behave extactly as I export. It's just these ones with
the shadow or transparency applied.

If you or others have other ideas or suggestions. I'm keen! Thanks. Diana

You have to be able to save the image as GIF or PNG image format to have a transparent background or
you have to add the page background color to the image in CorelDraw before saving.

I definitely exported my file as a png and gif (which is why they work in
Powerpoint). FrontPage is the mystery. What really puzzles me is - the
image my friend used was a jpg and it preserved the shadow effect (which has
a transparency effect, of course).

Perhaps what I should do is try inserting my gif and/or png into FP on her
system to see how it behaves. If it works ... then my FP is the problem
.... if it doesn't, then my export settings need to be reworked - for the
purposes of inserting into FrontPage.

Re your suggestion to add background for export ... I do include the
background with my exported image when the destination background is a solid
colour (and it does work).

Thanks for your response.
