I haven't been able to find any information on this ANYWHERE. When I make a
ppt presentation, everything seems fine until I close it and reopen it. Then
the images, pictures and backgrounds that I have put in (basically everything
except text) disappear in the "Normal View" mode-- but ARE visible in the
Slide Show or Slide Sorter views. Clearly this is a big pain since for the
most part I cannot see what I'm editing. Help!

I am running Windows XP, with PowerPoint 2002 SP3

Change hardware acceleration.
How to set graphics hardware acceleration back

Update your video drivers.
Drivers and such?

Also in my case the Hardware acceleration set at the mid (50%) of the slide
bar (disabling the Direct3D and DirectX features) worked on the PP 2003 and
Windows XP PRO SP2 versions in Italian.
Thank you very much for the tip.

Very glad to hear it, Davide. Thanks for letting us know.

If you ask me, that ol' "turn down hardware acceleration" thing is kinda
like duck tape and WD40 for PPT troubleshooting -- seems you can fix almost
anything with it. :-)
