How do I get a picture to show in the slide pane in normal view?

I am using the new powerpoint on my laptop and can't get the picture I have
pasted onto a slide to show in the slide pane of normal view. It shows in the
outline and on slide sorter view but not in normal view.

When I open PP on my computer, the slide uses the entire screen and does not
display the tool bar. Does anyone know how to change that?

Hi

Do you mean it opens in slide show view? If so it is probably a pps - open
powerpoint first the file -> open -> navigate to file -> open.

If that doesn't help, post back with your version of powerpoint. Just to
double check, you do have a full version of powerpoint and not just the
viewer? You cannot edit files if you only have the viewer.
