Hey Group,
I need a freeware program that allows you to resize images. The catch
is that I have program that can do that now but the image get blurry and
distorted. Does anyone know of a program that resizes images while
compensating for the distortion and blurriness so the image is still
crisp and clear. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks
Shane

Image Resizer
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe
This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a
right-click.
Here is how to get it smaller, right click on the file & select >
Resize Pictures, I use 800 x 600 or 640 x 480. Makes it a lot easier to
email.

Fyi: XP only.

Try Irfanview > Image > Resize/Resample.

Although you want to resize, select the option to resample. This
will change size and, depending on the actual values, very
probably retain the quality of the original better than simple
resizing. When you are finished use File > Save to put your work
away.

If you have used jegs then as you save you get an option about the
jpeg compression to be applied to the saved image. Here you can
also minimize quality loss by moving the slider.

I suggest trying Image Analyzer. It has 6 resizing methods so you can
pick and choose which one looks the best. It also has a plug-in that
does the best job I have ever seen on doubling the size of an image.

FastStone Photo Resizer is an image converter / resizer

mouse operation is well supported.

I use Pixresizer:

PIXresizer is a photo resizing program to easily create web and e-mail
friendly versions of your images with reduced file sizes.

The reduced files are saved in a different folder, so your original
images are not altered at all. PIXresizer offers several different
resizing methods to choose from and can automatically recognize image
sizes to calculate the best fit. In addition, it can convert between
image formats (JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG and TIFF), rotate images, convert
to grayscale and resize multiple images in batch mode. A great
companion for webmasters and digital photographers.

Options/Features
Simple Four-Step Workflow
Easy 'Apply recommended' option to make it even more user friendly
Works with single files as well as with multiple files all at once
Option to convert between graphics formats (.bmp, .gif, .jpg, .png,
and .tif)
Can be used to create thumbnails (takes one move on a slider)
Smart Ratio Calculation (image proportions can be overruled by the
user)
Error logging (checks for corrupted images a. o.)

Download it here: http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm

Hope this helps!

I use it me too.
I agree

Yep, thats what it says & Shane did'nt mention a system, so I figured
something was better than nothing.

I think Craig's point is that as there are a lot of win 98 users here
it would be handy for people to know it is an XP program right from
the start. To save numerous people wasting their time going to a web
site that isn't of any use to them.

Regards, John.

More or less John has it.

Really, it would be a good idea(tm) if we posted what we knew about OS
requirements. No big research thing...just if stuff like that were
staring us in the face. In this case though, my point was to alert
others since /being a win2k user/ I was a tad surprised.

<grin>
