I am designing a site in FP 03 and when I insert a picture into my site the
path of the picture is pointing at my hard drive. For Example it should read
something like: images\example.gif Instead it is pulling the entire path
ie. file:///C:/Documents and Settings/My Documents/Web
Site/images/example.gif The problem is when I go to publish my site the
picture is pointing to the file on my hard drive and not the images file on
the server so it does not show up. Is there a setting that I could change to
prevent this? Similar things happen when creating links. I just have to go
in and delete everything before “example.htm†Please help!

You need to import all image into the current open FP web / site prior to using them within the web.

The images need to reside somewhere *inside* your web folder before you
place it on a page.

Let me ask some potentially stupid questions as I cannot
determine from your post your level of experience with
the Front Page program. Pardon me in advance if I judge
your level as "too beginner".

1. Was your first step with this site you are working on
to create a web? That would entail File | Open | New page
or web and then select Web. A Front Page web is a special
folder that Front Page creates on your computer to hold
all of your web pages, images, hyperlinks, etc. It is
into this web that you must import your images from other
locations on your hard drive. It is also this web in
which you create your pages and assign hyperlinks.

When you publish your website to your host, Front Page
places everything from inside your web on the host server
and most importantly, as far as your problem goes,
NOTHING ELSE.

2. Do you open the above referred to web (or just a web
page) when you work on your site in Front Page? You must
be working within a Front Page web for things to function
properly once your publish your site to your host.

If you don't do the above things, you will run into the
problems you describe in your post.

I have created several site with FP03 and have never had this problem before.
I don't think my problem is clear. I have a "web" created within FP, within
that web FP default "images" folder. When I insert my picture in the page
from the images folder within my web FP wants to import the entire path
instead of just "images/example.gif" In the past some (not all) have
appeared like this; I would just simply go into the properties of the picture
and remove the path before "images/example.gif" and then select ok. This
time, however it will not allow me do to so.

I have looked at previous sites for a solution but have not been able to
find a difference other than I usually use .jpg instead of .gif's.

Try Importing them again.
Then Recalculate Hyperlinks on your local copy, the Publish.
If that doesnt work try Recalculate Hyperlinks on the server.

If your page has not been saved before you insert the images (from w/i you web) the path will show up as a file based path

I have tried all of these things yet it still is not pulling the correct
path. Would anyone happen to have any other suggestions?

1000 times out of 1000 if an image that is inserted in a page has a src that references the file
path:
file:///C:/Documents etc .... it is an indication that the page was opened by browsing to it in
Windows Explorer and then right clicking and selecting "Edit" from the context menu, / or / clicking
a link in "Documents" on the Start Menu.
