Hi, all,

I am new to this group, hope I can learn a lot from you.

My question is, how to deploy a XPE image to a brand new machine? The remote
booting service seems just copy the image into RAM, any way to install the
image into harddisk? Thanks for any help.

Hi Allen,

Few days ago we already discussed this topics how you can deploy image to new HDD.
For beginning you should try to avoid remote boot.

Try moving HDD around, or using bootable CD, or put XPP on second partition and use network sharing. (Do you have USB?)

Slobodan & KM,

to catch up quite a lot of stuff.

Thanks again,

Hi, Slobodan & KM,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

We need a solution to deploy the image file via network, we build
pc-compatible
hardware, so we can pre-install a default mini-image file to let the system
start,
then we need to customize the system by deploying a new image file, that's
what
we did with with CE. Does this procedure still works with XPE?

The pre-installed mini-image file is stored in a flash disk, seems I
couldn't find info about booting from flash disk, would you some clues about
it?

Another issue is about the "reseal" phase or First Boot Agent to obtain an
unique ID, this make it more complicated than CE image deployment.

Sorry for so many questions, any comments are appreciated.

Regards,

-Allen

Yes.

Search for. Ramboot (boot from SDI file that is loaded in memory).
Network boot, or boot from any medium can work in this way.
Disk image file with XPe (SDI file) is loaded by ntldr in memory. Then XPe boot normally from ramdisk. (You need to make this SDI
file on target device for the first time)

What do you mean by flash disk, there are CF, DOM, or USB disks? You can boot from all of them. What do you need.
Another issue is about the "reseal" phase or First Boot Agent to obtain an
unique ID, this make it more complicated than CE image deployment.

look for fbreseal.exe command in XPe doc. This will allow you to make unique SID when XPe boot first time after multiplication on
many mediums.
