image burning to DVD

Ok, I'm trying to burn the image(yes, I know exactly how to burn an image
file to a disk). It takes around 20 minutes to burn. I've used Alcohol 120%
version 1.9.5(build 3105) and I've used Nero 7 Ultra Edition(sorry, can't
seem to find the exact version number). I then close out of all my programs
and put the DVD into the drive. It accesses for a few seconds, then,
nothing. I open the drive and all I see is a 1kb Readme.txt file on the
disk(but, My Computer is showing that over 600MB is being used). The readme
file states as follows:

This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification.

Can I get any help with this. Thank you.

I used Nero 6.6.x to burn Vista DVD ISO and it worked fine.

Ok, I decided to re-download the file. Took a couple of hours, but, I had
nothing to lose after wasting about 10 DVD-Rs. When I downloaded it, I
compared it to the previous one I downloaded. It was exactly the same size.
The first one I did compare checksums, and the info post about the MDK
checksum was exactly correct.

I downloaded the new versions of Alcohol 120% and Nero 7.2. I tried burning
the first one with those, nothing worked. After the download, I used Nero
7.2 and I did something different wth it. This time, I clicked on Nero
Burning ROM and then went and used the DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) option for burning.
I also checked Verify Data. It finished with some errors in verifying the
data. I put the DVD in, no autoplay, but, I opened up the drive and I all
the files and 3.15 GB of them. Not sure if it was the old file or not, but,
it was very frustrating.

I opened the ISO in Nero and burn-it without any special options. To
download it I used the akamai activex download manager from the Microsoft
site.

That makes it worthless. It only compares with
the source ISO, byte-for-byte, and that would
not have changed. If you don't have another
burner, used other DVD media. There's nothing
special about bits -- either you can burn them
all 100%, or you can't. Some burns may be 100%
up to 2GB, 3GB, whatever, but then fail if near
4 GB (or whatever). That may be the burner,
the medium, or the software, or a combination.
One thing you can trust about nero (perhaps the
only thing -hah), is the verify. If it says
no go, it's no go.

Microsoft has stated that the dvd burning problems are widespread and the
most frequent culprit is burn speed. They are not claiming that burn speed
is always the culprit, but slow burn speeds resolves more problems than any
other solution.

Hi Paul,
It is becuse Joliet is not suppressed. Let use Virtual CD Control Panel
(you can download it from MS site). Please try to mount iso image containing
vista Files marking "suppresa joliet"
After that you will be able to read all Vista files without burning it.
After that please chek your Nero or Alcohol settings tu suppress Joliet.

Hi
The problem is because of not suppresing Joliet.
You can see that if you download Virtual CDRom Control Panel from Microsoft
Site. During mounting iso image you downloaded check "suppress Joliet"
Than you will be able to read all files from UDF partition. This is good
solution for example for Virtual PC or Virtual Server.
Next if you want to burn DVD Rom please check options of your burning
program. You have to suppress joliet.

It is obvious that neither one of you have
figured out how to "Burn Image to Disc!"

You do not do anything to suppress or extract
anything!

You simply "Burn Image to Disc" and it will work
as it is supposed to.

I have burned both the Vista x86 and the Vista
x64 .ISO with Nero 6 using DVD+RW discs. Both
DVDs worked flawlessly to install both versions
of Vista in a Dual Boot configuration on a 160GB
hard drive.

DO NOT EXTRACT ANYTHING FROM THE .ISO! BURN
IMAGE TO DISC!

If you open Nero StartSmart, make sure you have
DVD selected at the top center, then click on
the "Copy and Backup" icon (second from the
right) and finally "Burn Image to Disc."

If you open Nero Burning ROM, you select
"DVD-ROM(ISO)"

If you open Nero Express, you select "Disc Image
or Saved Project"

Any one of the 3 methods will copy the .ISO
image to a disc.

Check the following link for instructions about
how to burn an ISO:

Geez,
As techie as I am (20 years now), this is my first attemp at burning a "Iso"
file, and I always follow directions. The instructions say burn the CD -
which failed everytime. As soon as the post here says the word "copy" -
everything went as it supposed too.

So count me in the group that obviously does not know how to burn CD's.

thanks for the post.

Paul, are you using WinRAR?. Because WinRAR is a BIG part of the problem. You
either have to (somehow) disable WinRAR or delete it off your system. After
you're done that, then redownload the .iso image, but I don't think you can
anymore seeing as MicroSoft cancelled the download link. If you download the
..iso image with WinRAR enabled/installed, the .iso image somehow gets lost,
leaving the ReadMe.txt. Sorry you didn't get to experience Vista. :\

No, that is not true. You need to "Burn the image to disc" not simply copy
the file to a DVD.

Um...Mark. The WinRAR thing? Yes it is true. Try downloading WinRAR yourself
and then the .iso file.

I've been using WinRAR for years. But I never tried to open an ISO with it.
And my copies of x86 and x64 both burned and installed just fine.
