CAN'T EXTRACT ISO FILE

G

Guest

I downloaded Vista from Microsoft's site, but cannot burn onto DVD. AFter the
downlaod, it was a Winrar file, and when I try to extract the files, all i
get is a readme.txt that says "This disc contains a "UDF" file system and
requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."

Is there a special software I need? Why can't i extract the ISO file? I am
sure the complete file is there, as the Winrar file is 3,276,952 KB in size.
ANy suggestions?

You don't extract an ISO file. It is an image of a disc, so all you do use
you rdvd burning software to write the ISO. Look at your software help
pages on how to write ISO.

You have to extract the ISO file from the rar, then, with Nero, choose
"Burn image", and give Nero the .iso file.

Then Nero will burn this iso as a bootable DVD, and then you'll be able
to install Vista.

i thought so. but the problem is when i try to extract, the only file is the
readme.txt. so what can i do? the winrar file is 3.2 g in size, but the only
file inside that i can access is the readme.txt

Do NOT open or try to extract the file with WinRAR. It is NOT a .rar file,
it is an ISO file, which is an exact image of a dvd disc.

In Nero, use nero start smart...select the copy and backup icon, then burn
image to disc.

Or if using the full version of nero, on the recorder tab there is 'burn
image'.

i have nero exprss. i don't see anything like start smart. in any event, when

Open Nero.

If you see the wizard, click Close Wizard.

If it says "New Compilation", click Cancel.

You must select Burn Image from the File menu.

When it asks for the file, change File of type to All files (*.*).

Now, find that huge WinRAR file you downloaded, select it, then click Open.

Burn.

I got confused when he talked about winrar. I forgot WinRAR gets the
association with .iso files

Delete all files that winrar created.

Do you still have the original Vista Beta 2 iso file that you downloaded.
If you do, that is the file that you will work with. If not you need to
download it again.

Do not try to extract anything from the iso file.

The iso file is an image. You need to burn it to the DVD.

If you have Nero, I'm surprised that you don't have Nero SmartStart. It
installed from the CD that I got with my DVD burner. Your problem now is
either to install Nero SmartStart which should be on the CD that you got
with your DVD burner, or to find some free software that will burn an iso
image to a DVD.

No you don't. There is no rar file. Winrar tries to read it, but it is
already an ISO file

With Nero Express, click on the last item, Disk Image or Saved
Project.
Then in the Open box for Files of type:, select Image Files. This will
allow only the ISO file that you downloaded to be seen.
Click the box Verify data on disc after burning.
Then Next.

Bobbydog,

Assuming you do eventually manage to burn the iso to a DVD and install
Vista please don't hesitate to post back for detailed instructions on
how to get XP back when you find Vista turns out to be a lot less than
you expected and has all sorts of issues & bugs.

Do yourself a favour and leave Vista alone for now, it will end in
tears.

No extraction required. Disable WinRaR. It is changing the file type. The
file is actually a bootable image and needs only to be burned to disc. Use
"burn image to disc" and your slowest speed.
