I want to take all my sermons in my HD and put then into one folder and
then do a search by a key word or phrase. locating all sermons with
that certain word / phrase. So what program will do this for me ? I
have about 5 yrs of sermons , which amounts to about 500 and each being
about 5 pages . any sugestions as to what program to buy > I have MS
OFFICE 2000 and the older ver. Of it 97. < PastorDCB

Windows XP will do that for you.
Go to START - Search - then limit the "look in" box to the folder you used.
Note there is a box to insert word or a phrase as key to the search.

Do you have anyone in the church that can tutor you on Windows and Word?

Windows XP has that builtin. Place all your sermons in one folder, than
from Windows Explorer, open that folder and click on the Search toolbar
button.

Than all you have to do is type in the criteria you want to search and from
where.

Use the following criteria:

All or part of the file name:
*.* (or *.extension of the files you want to search)

A word or phrase in the file:
(your search criteria)

Look in:
(should be set to your current Sermon folder ... if not ... click the down
arrow and click the Browse...)

You can use the winxp built in. A much better program is Agent Ransack,
it's free. When you install, there is an option to replace the winxp
search. I didn't select that, but keep Ransack as a quick launch.

XP has a built in search feature which will look for test strings in files.
It has some limitations because in it's default configuration it will only
search for test in files with specific file types - though this can be
changed. What is the file extension for the sermons?

If it's not one of the default extensions that XP searches in, it's best to
use the free search tool, called Agent Ransack. Get it from here:
http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/. I would recommend it no matter
what file format the sermons are in.
