When i visit my HTML server (XP prof) it dosnt work from out side the intranet (works inside), but the FTP server that comes with XP prof works both inside and out side my network. How come HTTP wont work outside but FTP will... Ive been strugglign with it for days now and there dosnt seem to be any reason for this (have a router but the settings are the same for FTP except the port) Anyone???

Hi there, with IIS server for Windows XP Pro, as part of
it's service it will ask you what ip did you want to use
for it, now if you go into the properties of the IIS/HTTP
server and scroll through it untill you stumble accross
an area that will ask you to type in an IP address, now
automatically it will put "All Unsighned" or some thing
simular to that, now click on that part and it should
come up with 2 ip's, first is your network ip and the 2nd
should be ur internet's ip numbder. Now click the
internet's ip number and Apply then u should be fine...

Now if there's only just the one ip which is ur network
ip then find out what your ip is for the internet and
type that in manually, now hopefully that should work.

Maybe your ISP has blocked port 80 to ensure you stay within your
acceptable use policy.

So can't i just change the port number? How do i find free ports?

Set up IIS web server to use a port such as 8080 (commonly used in place of
port 80). But you could any port for example from 4000 to 65000, try 10000
if you want to. Port forward this port in your router to the LAN computer
running IIS. The for of the url would then be:
http://yourdomain:8080.
