IIS instal hassles

P

Paul Watt

Hi,
I'm trying to install IIS on my machine, but having problems. I'm running
WIN XP pro SP2. The installation starts but then it gets to some files
"staxmem.dll for example". the installation halts and asks to point to the
file, the files are on my hard drive in a folder c:\i386 (i dont have the
win xp pro disks (they didnt come with the machine)) but the installer wont
recognise them.
Also the installer wont see them on the SP2 disk.

I've recently installed .net 2.0 framework, would this have affected things?

Is there somewhere I can download IIS or is my sp2 installation corroupt?

Cheers guys

You may receive the "Setup cannot copy the file staxmem.dll" error message
when you try to install IIS on a computer that is running Windows XP
Professional with SP2:

Running out of ideas, Paul.

Checking the staxmem.dll file properties in my computer, the Version number
is reported as 6.0.2600.2180. Do you have an earlier version, per chance?

My staxmem.dll doesnt have a version number listed. Maybe this is key?
Maybe uninstalling the service packs, installing IIS, re-installing service
packs would do the trick?

how do you uninstall the service packs? they're not listed in my add/remove
programmes list. (pre-installed OS with new computer)

Cheers Ramesh (clutching at straws now)

Paul,

Are you sure the "version" information for staxmem.dll is non-existent?

Here is the correct way to check the version:

Right-click the DLL file, and choose Properties
Select the Version tab.

Note that the files in the i386 folder are compressed and the file name ends
with an underscore ( _ ). If that's the case, the file has to be expanded
using the "Expand" command.

nope, Cant find a version number, or anyway of expanding the file.
BTW, I've just installed IIS on another machine with service pack 2. could
it be that its balking because its a OEM install?

Might be possible. Anyway, here is the syntax for Expand command.
