If I dismiss a reminder, set within a task, does the task disappe.

I have recently begun to use Outlook Task List extensively. I set reminders
in the task statements to prod me to follow up on stuff. The reminder shows
up during the morning as I prepare for the days work. I read it, react to
it, and tehn dismiss it. Does the underlying task disappear from my master
task list?
I am using Office 2003
