iexplore.exe - application error

For the past couple of weeks I've been having trouble
accessing the internet. For no apparent reason (?) why on
the internet, especially just surfing, the screen freezes
and an error box appears:
IEXPLORE.EXE-APPLICATION ERROR
"The instruction at "0x0132358e" referenced memory
at "0x014507a4". The memory could not be read".
click on OK to terminate the program.

the quoted number/text changes with each new error window.

Any advise how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
