IE7 XML / RSS Feeds

...in short, inconsistent and a little buggy.

* Immediately after installing IE7 SP2 beta, one is able to easily read
through RSS feeds, but something happens within five days, such that one can
no longer read RSS / XML with the browser.

* The first manifestation of this problem is that the RSS Feeds icon on the
toolbar is greyed out, and this must be accessed only via Ctrl-J or the
Tools/Toolbars/Feeds menu, which only successfully gets you the list of
feeds previously selected-read.

* At that point, selecting any previously-read feed - or trying to open a
new one - brings only a dialog as follows:

File Download - Security Warning
Do you want to save this file, or find a program online to open it?

Name: filename
Type: Unknown File Type, 1000 bytes
From: www.microsoft.com

(Find) (Save) (Cancel)

* Selecting Find produces a web page from
http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/mimeassoc.asp?mime=application/rss+xml
:

Windows has the following information about this MIME type. This page will
help you find software needed to open your file.
MIME Type: application/rss xml
Description: UnKnown

Windows does not recognize this MIME type.
You can search the following Web sites for related software and information:
(urls for FILExt, UK Technical Support, Download.com, MSN, Shareware.com)

Have questions? See these Frequently Asked Questions (with a url
http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/0409/faq.asp )

* Of course none of the above links have anything about the problem IE7
develops with RSS/XML feeds/files, and I've found no real material about IE7
Beta other than the minimal FAQ at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx - which only says
that "You can see all the updated content on this site by looking in the
feeds sections of your Favorites Center each time you open Internet Explorer
7."

* Favorites Center is of course what opens when one hits Ctrl-J or goes
through the Tools/Toolbar/Feeds menu, but once the error has occurred -
something with File Type being modified for XML? - all it presents is a
sidebar with the Feeds you've chosen before. You can't add Feeds after this
error has occurred.

* It is then necessary to completely remove IE7 and reinstall it, in order
for RSS Feeds / XML to be readable properly. Within several days, however,
the problem reasserts itself.

And why doesn't Microsoft Connect realize when one has been already logged
in via Messenger/.NET? There hasn't been any password - username completion
since IE7 was installed, either.

Thanks and let me know what else to do to tell MS more.
