IE7 uninstall problems

Doug

Hi everyone,

I am running XP MCE SP2. I installed IE7 and kept losing my connection
since that update, Uninstalled. Now since the uninstall, I am having
problems installing or running programs with Autorun when I insert a disk.
Install routines seem to run okay if I"m installing from HDD though.

EXAMPLE:
Put in a new CD-ROM for install, IDE light comes on for about 4 or 5
minutes, then it'll run correctly. Tried other player, same thing. Loooog
delay, then it'll pop up and run.

Tried a completely different program disk, and same thing, both players.
Leads me to believe it is software related.

I don't completely understand the "Windows Installer" package, could it be
that is corrupted somehow?

Everything was smooth till that dang IE7 was installed. I better wait for
a few months for them to get the bugs out I suppose.

Anyway, any thoughts are appreciated!!

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Scroll down to Windows Internet
Explorer 7 > nuke it and IE6 will come back. I agree with you, wait and
see what happens to others before taking the MS new product plunge :)

Some MSoft people have written an unofficial program to fix problems with
Autoplay. As such it is not on a Microsoft site, but it can be found at
Http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/autofix.exe

without having to go through the validation process, far as I can tell..

Ok, thanks. I didn't think it was on the MS site. It was unofficial.

It ran, I did the test and tried to re-create the problem, it finished the
test and it came up with nothing... I quit it, messed around for a couple
minutes, then all of a sudden, the startup routine kicked in from when I did
the test program.

It just isn't reading for whatever reason. It will take about 4 minutes or
so, then it will work.

Additional info: I can open the disk, access the files just fine, just as I
always have been able too, but it's just the Autoplay that's not working.

Got me on this one, I have no idea where else to look....

Doug,

Look in device manager, IDE ATA/ATPI controllers, properties, advanced tab,
for the Primary or secondary IDE channel where ever your drive is connected,
see if the drive is in UDMA 2 mode or has slipped into PIO mode..? It should
read as Ultra DMA 2 mode..

You can manually run the setup or install file from the CD without autorun
as a work around. Sorry I don't have any more ideas.
