IE7 Desktop Icon Won't Show

I have tried many, many times to get the native Internet Explorer 7
icon to show on desktop without success and wonder if is a Vista
problem. Never had problem when did this with XP Pro.

Have manually entered correct new DWORD 32 bit Value # in registry,
used registry fix and, using WinBubbles, ticked off "Show IE7 Desktop Icon".
Have refreshed desktop by keyboard and clicking on desktop Refresh.
System has been rebooted many times over past week due to
installing other programs and still no IE7 icon (don't want IE shortcut).

Am 3 week newbie to Vista and getting this supposedly one little simple
issue to work is proving beyond frustrating. Have googled this many
times and done all that suggested. Any further ideas would be much
appreciated.

Copy this text to Notepad:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
"{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000

Save it as addie.reg

Once saved, click on it to install. Then right click on your desktop and
hit "refresh".

Tx for prompt replies.

Had previously tried the notepad .reg suggestion which
didn't work. Just downloaded the IE script - ran, refreshed
desktop & rebooted. Unfortunately, that didn't work either.

Besides this and some other annoying Vista Ultimate issues
still hoping to resolve, won't give up on Vista just yet.

Will keep

HideDesktopIcons
-NewStartPanel > DWORD (32-bit) Value
{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

Even tried adding to ClassicStartMenu in Registry
and changing desktop to Classic View.

Uninstalled WinBubble but still a no go.

Know does work and doing correctly as had it after
first installed Vista - just can't get the icon after doing
clean install week ago. Maybe Refresh & F5 key not working!

Will leave for now & try again later. Tx again for all replies.

Do you right click on the Start Button/Properties/Start Menu/Customize/Show
on Desktop menu/click internet on the pull down menu?

There is nothing wrong with that script. Do you know anything about
vbScripts?? It does not use quotation marks like a reg file.

Did run your script and that didn't work for reasons unknown
to me. Only got desktop IE7 icon when did steps outlined in
web link mentioned in last post.

I appreciate very much your time and effort in trying to help
me resolve this issue.
