IE7 crashes when sending from OWA

R

Ron Raisleger

I've upgraded to IE7 from IE6. When I use Outlook Web Access and send a
message (new or forwarded), IE7 crashes.

I've removed IE7 and rolled back to IE6 and the problem has disappeared.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? I'd like use IE7 of course but since
I do a lot of work from home, I need OWA for maintaining email contact.

You need to uninstall (or upgrade) the OWA S/MIME control. (The S/MIME
control should show up in your add/remove programs.)

I had the same problem BEFORE upgrading from IE6 to IE7. It continued after
the upgrade. The trigger was installing OWA S/MIME 6.5.76.38.1. When I try to
upgrade it or to uninstall it using Add/Remove Programs, I get an error
message saying:

Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this
version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this
product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

I have a similar problem. I just upgraded my exchange 2003 box to SP2 and I
installed the OWA S/MIME 6.5.76.38.1 on my Windows XP IE7 machine. Now
whenever I try to send an email, IE7 crashes. I also get the error message
when I try to uninstall it saying:
Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this
version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this
product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

Try using the setupmcl.exe from Exchange 2003 SP1 to reinstall/uninstall the
S/MIME control. If that doesn't work, try the setupmcl.exe from the
Exchange 2003 CD.

Sorry. I should have added that I am a client, not an administrator and this
is my personal laptop. So, I don't have MS Exchange loaded on my computer. I
access my email via OWA after logging on to the employee portal. The S/MIME
file was available on line via the portal and we were encouraged to download
and install it. At this point I'd be happy just to get the S/MIME off my
laptop permanently. Thanks.

Then talk with the folks that run the Exchange servers and tell them you can
get the old one removed from your system. Tell them you suspect that if you
could get your hands on one of the older setup files for the OWA S/MIME
control (which is setupmcl.exe), you could get it removed and then install
the one they want you too.

And just so you know, my desktop at home had the same problem and this was
the only way I could get past the "Another version of this..." message.
