Vista Ultimate: When I set "Enable memory protection to mitigate online
attacks" to ON in advanced IE settings, the IE7 won't start. It crashes
instead, with a message that DEP has shut it down because of improper use of
memory.
Anyone knows why is this?

It is probably a toolbar or addin that is causing the crash. There should be
an error in the event logs. In the details it sometimes tells you a module
name that is causing the problem.

It's the Google toolbar. However, the problem only exists if I enable the
toolbar AND select "Enable memory protection to mitigate online attacks". If
I run the toolbar without the memory protection, IE works fine. What exactly
is the conflict? What is really the memory protection? Am I safe without it?

You are safer with it on than off. It does cause problems with many toolbars
and addins. It's off by default. Some software developers are fixing their
plugins so that they work with DEP enabled. Adobe is one. I guess Google is
not.

I have experienced "Error" generated and W IE was "closing down program".
After reading this threat I disabled the Ask Tool Bar leaving Google in
tact.
And it helped so far.
