Hello,

Having problems with IE7 opening and loading very slowly (only started
happening recently). Following advice from this (excellent) forum, I tried
running it without add-ons - and, hey presto, it works excellently again.

So I went into 'manage add-ons' to see what could be causing the problem and
(to my horror) there are about 40 add-ons running with my IE7.

How can I tell what is good and what is bad? Most of them are Active X, but
there are some browser extensions. The only toolbar I have is Google, but
I've had it years and never had a problem with it.

I realise that my question is vague, I didn't want to bore you with all the
specific names of the add-ons, just wondered if there was a general rule to
follow and is it usual to have so many add-ons?

Could I disable them all and start again? Or would it be easier to do a new
install of IE and (try to) be selective about what is added? I tried running
without add-ons but couldn't view these forum pages.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks, Shd

Still experiencing problems?

To uninstall IE 7 (which returns you to IE 6) follow these directions:

Start, Settings, Control Panel then click Add or Remove Programs, locate
IE7 and uninstall it.

....and...

If you upgraded to IE 7 'before' you applied SP 3, you'll have to
uninstall SP 3 first.

Read this before installing IE7:
Sandi's Installation Tips: 1 thru 8, 10 and 11, note 12 that's it.

Do not use Automatic/Windows Update for downloading/installing IE7!

Save the program to your desktop then install.

Activate Windows Update after installing IE7 to download/install pertinent
updates offered, including Root Certificates updates.

Good luck :)
